Director-General to open International Conference on ICT and Post-2015 Education in Qingdao

On 22 and 23 May, UNESCO Director-General, Irina Bokova, is in Qingdao, China, on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the International Conference on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and Post-2015 Education. Chaired by the Minister of Education of the People’s Republic of China, the Conference will be opened by the Director-General, the Vice Premier of China Ms Liu Yandong, the Minister of Education Mr Guiren Yuan, Mayor of the Qingdao Municipal Government and the Governor of Shandong Provincial Government.

This International Conference seeks to create an interface between education and ICT sectors to debate on how ICT can be leveraged at scale to support the achievement of post-2015 education targets. It will take stock of sector-wide strategies to ensure equitable and quality lifelong opportunities for all.

The Conference, jointly organized by UNESCO, the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese National Commission for UNESCO, will bring together high level participants from around the world including Ministers of Education and high-level ministry officials, leaders of ICT industries, senior representatives of UN agencies and international organizations, eminent researchers and practitioners.

While in Qingdao, the Director-General is expected to meet with the Vice Premier of the People’s Republic of China, Ms Liu Yandong, the Mayor of Changsha City, Mr Hu Henghua, and the Mayor of Qingdao City.
