How can I apply for an internship or an employment?

All enquiries concerning employment and training opportunities at UNESCO should be addressed to the Recruitment Section of the Human Resources Management Bureau.

What ways of collaboration are possible?

ASPnet cooperates with a broad range of institutions, UN agencies, the private Sector, Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs), or research institutions (see partners)

Collaboration can take the form of sponsorship, testing of educational materials, technical cooperation, facilitating contacts and others.

 

A precondition for collaboration is mutual benefit for both ASPnet and the partner institution. This concerns in particular   

- sharing joint interests and priorities  

- ensuring the use of the joint UNESCO ASPnet logo, once the partnership is official   - ensuring the mutual respect of project participants, in particular ASPnet national coordinators, teachers, principals, students and parents. They are often participating in ASPnet in a voluntary capacity.

How can I contact ASPnet schools in my country?

Search on the national ASPnet website internal link to national ASPnet websites of your country or contact the ASPnet National Coordinator internal link, and find out about your national ASP network and the nearest ASPnet school.

Can we use the UNESCO ASPnet logo?

UNESCO Associated Schools are welcome to use the joint UNESCO ASPnet logo internal link for their websites and brochures, on the condition that they have received the official certificate of membership from the ASPnet International Coordination, UNESCO, Paris. Only officially registered schools are allowed to use the logo, and they have to follow the official guidelines for the use of the logo.

What is a pilot project?

A pilot project is an experimental project or activity undertaken by individual schools for a specific period of time on one or more of the four main themes of ASPnet. Schools should submit an annual report of their pilot projects to their ASPnet National Co-ordinator.

What possibilities are there for schools to get involved in current projects?

Schools can :

launch activities on one or several of the four main study-themes

take part, according to the location of the school, in one of the ASPnet flagship projects

participate in the campaigns (internal link) organized by UNESCO Associated Schools and observe the International Days and Years  celebrated by UNESCO and the United Nations act as experimental centres for testing and validating pedagogical materials internal link or teaching methods produced by UNESCO or its partners.  

Announcements on current regional or international projects will be sent via e-mail and/or mail by the ASPnet international coordination and/or the ASPnet national coordinator. We recommend that you also consult our website regularly for updated information on ongoing flagship projects, school contests, campaigns etc.

How can I find a partner school for a twinning project?

The best way to search is to get in contact with the National Coordinator of the respective country you are looking for. They are the best persons to identify active and interested schools within their national network. You will find a regularly updated list of our national coordinators on this link (internal link to ASPnet coordinators).

Can we get funding for our projects?

ASPnet, like UNESCO in general, is not a funding organization. The ASPnet budget is fixed in advance every year for ASPnet regional and international events and publications only. We regret that we cannot answer the many requests for funding and scholarships that arrive in our mailbox daily.

What are the obligations for a member school?

An Associated School needs to meet the following requirements:

- designate a coordinator to liaise with the National Commission and the school

- execute the project described in the application form 

- involve students, teachers and parents in the project

 

What is to be gained from taking part in ASPnet?

Membership has no financial implications, but teachers and students of Associated Schools often speak of their pride in belonging to a worldwide UNESCO network. They feel that they “are part of the solution and not the problem”.   

Exchanges and twinning partnerships between schools and countries deepen the knowledge and understanding of other cultures.

 

For teachers, working and sharing experiences on joint projects with colleagues all over the world and at all levels of education is a powerful source of motivation and inspiration.   

For students, the opportunity to take on responsibilities and develop different skills is an excellent preparation for adult citizenship.   

Associated Schools improve the content of curricula at school level and develop participatory methods of teaching and learning. To help them achieve this, UNESCO regularly sends publications developed by ASPnet or its partners to the National Coordinators, and, in some cases, to the Associated Schools.

What are the criteria for the selection of an UNESCO Associated School?

Each country should consider an equal representation of urban and rural areas and of different levels of schools as well as geographical distribution within their national ASP network. 

Associated School membership implies long-term commitment on the part of the school principal and teaching staff. The membership constitutes a moral contract between the school and UNESCO. It can be complemented with a charter signed by the school and the National Commission.

How can my school become a UNESCO Associated School?

Please familiarize yourself with the network and its activities before making the decision to apply. The application procedure follows various steps:

 - As a first step, schools must submit a pluridisciplinary educational project on one or several of ASPnet’s study themes to the National Commission for UNESCO in your country, for the attention of the ASPnet National Coordinator. 

 - If the National Coordinator and the National Commission accept the request, the school receives an application form to be returned to the National Commission.  

- The National Commission forwards the application form to the UNESCO International Coordination, UNESCO, Paris, France.   

- Upon acceptance, the school receives a letter and certificate of affiliation to ASPnet.

To ensure long-term commitment in ASPnet, a trial period is sometimes required: Interested schools are given the status of a “school in cooperation with ASPnet”, before applying for international membership in ASPnet after two or three years. This model gives both the schools and the national ASPnetwork the opportunity to get to know each other.
