International Forum on the Return of Cultural Property under the patronage of UNESCO “Strategies to build the international network for the return of cultural properties”

An international forum was jointly organized on 19 July 2011 in Seoul, Republic of Korea, by the Korean National Commission for UNESCO (KNCU), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT) and the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea (CHA), under the patronage of UNESCO.

Starting with a presentation by Lyndel V. Prott, former Director of UNESCO’s Division of Cultural Heritage and Honorary Professor at the University of Queensland, the forum examined various forms and cases of international cooperation for return and restitution of cultural property with a special focus on the UNESCO framework. It also facilitated communication, raised awareness on this issue and enhanced domestic and international network between civil organizations, local governments and experts.
