A Commercial Media Roundtable on HIV and AIDS was held on 2 August 2007 in Beijing, China. The Roundtable was convened by UNDP, UNESCO, UNICEF and UNAIDS, in cooperation with the National Population and Family Planning Commission of China, MTV and other government bodies and private sector institutions.
The event aimed to underline the role of commercial media, advertising and corporate communications in reducing stigma and discrimination faced by people living with HIV in China through sharing of experiences and discussions on innovative initiatives. The event brought together over 80 participants representing the art community, media industry, the private sector, donor organizations, civil society, networks of people living with HIV, as well as UN agencies.
Mr. Mark Richmond, UNESCO Global Coordinator for HIV and AIDS, presented UNESCO’s perspective and practice on the role of education and media in reducing HIV- and AIDS-related stigma and discrimination.
