UNESCO's Free and Open Source Software Portal

The UNESCO FOSS Portal provides a one-stop access point to reference documents on FOSS movements, projects and initiatives, as well as to websites hosting the most popular and useful FOSS packages in UNESCO’s fields of competence.

The FOSS Portal was launched in 2001 when the UNESCO Communication and Information Sector pioneered the promotion of Free and Open Source software (FOSS) as an alternative way for participating to information and knowledge societies, where knowledge is not confined to content but seamlessly include the media which becomes itself a ground for expression of creativity and innovation.
