Educación Integral de la Sexualidad: Conceptos, Enfoques y Competencias

Only available in Spanish

Educación Integral de la Sexualidad: Conceptos, Enfoques y Competencias (Comprehensive Sexuality Education: Concepts, Approaches and Competencies) is a strategic document that highlights the importance of sexuality education as an integral part of basic education. The document is based on the assertion that sexuality education must go beyond the acquisition of knowledge to strengthen competencies and life skills.

The goal of this document is to position sexuality educacion aas an integral part of the lifelong learning.  Sexuality contributes to the development of identity, and therefore to individual and social development, and must incorporate capacity development as it does contents.  These capacities can be developed in an interdisciplinary and progressive manner so that people are able to act respectfully and responsibly as individuals and members of the broader society.

The document explains that sex education is intrinsically related to the capacities needed to understand, reflect upon, evaluate and act on information.  Sexuality education is part of the foundation that young people need for lifelong learning, and as such, the document’s focus integrates sustainable well-being and human development.

We hope that this publication will provoke analysis and also support the strengthening of sexuality education throughout the region, and that the analysis presented will be useful guidance for the formulation of innovative programs in the region.
