UNESCO supported the organization of training on associative radio in Tunisia

UNESCO, through its Rabat Office, supported the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters in the organization of training on associative radio in Tunisia. The main training session took place from 12 to 14 March 2012 in Gafsa (Tunisia) and was followed, from 15 to 18 March 2012, by a series of training-mentoring workshops for "Sawt el Manajem" radio staff (Radio Voices of the Mines, la Voix des Mines).

Radio Voice of the Mines in Gafsa ("Sawt al Manajem" in Arabic), started on the internet in February 2011 with a group of half a dozen citizen journalists, a few weeks after the revolution that brought down the former regime of President Ben Ali.

UNESCO and AMARC (World Association of Community Radio) supported the radio in organizing a training for Radio Voice of the Mines young journalists. This training focused on gender-oriented content production, reports and interviewing techniques, radio management and journalistic ethics.

It was part of UNESCO's participation at the conference "Community Media and the Arab Spring", organized by AMARC and which took place from 9 to 10 March 2012 in Tunis and from 16 to 18 March in Gafsa.
