Intersectoral platforms are an operational mode of programme delivery intended to implement a plan of action in a novel way, thus demonstrating intersectorality in action.
Intersectoral platforms address complex issues and global, regional and country-level challenges. They are about implementing UNESCO’s regular programme for the 2008-2009 biennium and attaining the expected results approved by the General Conference, from which is expected an enhancement in the quality, coherence and relevance of the Organization’s programme delivery.
During this biennium, UNESCO will implement 12 intersectoral platforms that focus on key global challenges requiring an interdisciplinary approach through the combined action of its five major programmes: (education, natural sciences, social and human sciences, culture, communication and information).
