 Dear colleagues,


I am especially happy to welcome you to Paris on February 10 and 11 2014 in the framework of the Salon de la Radio for the 66th URTI general Assembly, the Radio and Television Commissions as well as for the events we shall organize outside these meetings. You will thus be able to benefit from the demonstrations of the exhibitors of Salon de la Radio.

Our session will be opened by Mrs Irina Bokova, Director general of UNESCO, this historical partner who gave us the statute of association and with whom we recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding aiming to reinforce our cooperation. 

We greatly count on your participation in these meetings which will make it possible to rule notably on:

- the new scale of membership fees 2014
- the election of a new Director general
- the final discharge of the budget 2013 and the adoption of the budget 2014
- the process of our audiovisual Grand Prix 2014

Since 2009 the radio broadcasters of 34 countries joined URTI thanks to the reinforcement of the activities of our Union which offers its members free access, in radio as in television, to its exchange catalogues of more than 6,000 quality programmes. In a context of financial pressure the new digital platforms will accelerate our needs for contents. The future thus belongs to exchanges, which opens great perspectives for our Union!

I also want to underline our partnership with the entirety of the international audiovisual organizations which allowed us to consolidate our place at the first rank of the international audiovisual grand prix (86 countries represented in 2013).

Our 66th general Assembly will take place on the eve of World Radio Day, the second edition of which will be celebrated on February 13. I invite you to discover the platform wrd13.com developed by URTI for the International World Radio Day Committee which includes the thirteen main audiovisual and telecommunications organizations. Many international radio stations already ensure its promotion on air and on their Websites by inviting their listeners to deposit audio messages which will be broadcast throughout the world all day long on February 13 2014.

“To breathe Paris preserves the soul” Victor Hugo wrote. So it is with a real pleasure that we shall welcome you from the whole world in view of preserving, but also of strengthening, the soul of the values shared by the 65 URTI members. Welcome to Paris!

Message from Ms Irina Bokova,Director-General of UNESCO
on the occasion of URTI General Assembly


Cooperation between UNESCO and the International Radio and Television Union is deep and longstanding, stretching back to the creation of URTI in 1949, from an idea expressed at the UNESCO General Conference held in Mexico two years earlier.

Since then, we have worked closely together to foster dialogue, inclusion and mutual understanding as foundations for lasting peace and sustainable development – including through such flagship events as World Radio Day (13 February).

Radio can carry any message to any place at any time –- we must harness this power fully for the benefit of everyone, especially for women, who remain under-represented in news-making, in decision-making, and in media ownership.

This is why we are working to develop radio as an independent and pluralistic media for all, including through gender sensitive media indicators, and to create a safer environment for all journalists, regardless of gender. 
URTI and other partners have taken positive steps to reach these goals, by establishing the International World Radio Committee and by organizing events that widen outreach to the general public. 

In a world changing quickly, our common goal has never been more important -- to build more inclusive, knowledge societies, on the basis of the free flow of information, through freedom of expression and in respect of cultural diversity. This is the importance of our cooperation to bridge knowledge divides across the world.

Dear Audiovisual and, more specifically, radio professionals,


We've been working with URTI for many years now, and we're proud of it. The Salons de la Radio have always been there to support URTI's different actions in favour of radio and television.

The Salon de la Radio gathers every year more than 2500 professionals, who get together for 3 days to attend workshops and debates and to discover the new products, services and strategies that are presented by the 50 exhibitors of our show.

In 2014 we're glad to welcome URTI's Executive Board , General Assembly, and commissions, as well as the 6 French-speaking delegations of the FRANCO-Phonie 3.0 project. The goal of our radio professional-oriented Salon de la Radio is today achieved: make this rendez-vous the not-to-be-missed event for all radio decision-makers. You play a great role in this, and we will make sure your time with us will be rich and pleasant!
