Inauguration of the sub-regional exhibition “Our Common Heritage: Exploring the World Heritage Sites of Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam”

General Panels of project participating World Heritage Sites*.

Within the framework of the UNESCO/Japan FIT project “Revitalising World Heritage Site Museums in Cambodia, Laos and Viet Nam”, the 9 project participating site related museums of Angkor, Preah Vihear, Vat Phou, My Son, the Ho Citadel and the Thang Long Citadel, are hosting the sub-regional exhibition from December 2012 to July 2013.

The sub-regional exhibition acts as an imaginary itinerary highlighting the vast and rich interconnections between the related and associated UNESCO World Heritage sites and populations, in addition to their role in global history. Each museum, in addition to hosting the common themes developed by UNESCO and experts on “Nature and Myth” and “Trade and Exchange”, are exhibiting their own themes derived from their collections, thereby providing a new interpretation – and hence experience- for even the seasoned visitor.

These exhibitions are the results of the two previous intensive workshops under the project, and are the practical outputs of the capacity-building of museum professionals in research, exhibition planning, design and implementation in addition to related public programmes and information (e.g. education programme and exhibition catalogue). In the long term, by building a strong network of museums and museum professionals from the three Mekong countries due to the collective training and final product development, the project will guarantee sustainable and multiplier effects- a possible model for sub-regional cooperation.

For more information of the exhibitions such as practicalities, please refer to the individual webpage of each project participating Museum.
