Address by Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO, to the World Forum of UNESCO Chairs
UNESCO has convened the World Forum in order to facilitate a broad exchange of experience and good practices acquired thus far by the UNESCO Chairs and the UNITWIN networks. On that basis, we are inviting the participants to outline what should be the future development of the Programme.
Since it is your Programme, which should meet your needs, then your views and concerns should shape its progress. However, the Programme is also one of UNESCO’s major activities in the field of higher education and we therefore
have our own reasons for wishing to see it grow further, particularly to meet the current and emerging challenges facing higher education and society in general.
The Forum, therefore, is an opportunity for open and constructive dialogue on the question: ‘Where do we go from here?’" - More
