  Agreements
The approval of a UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Project is formalized through an Agreement, to be signed by UNESCO and the participating institution(s).

unitwin.jpgRenewal of Agreements

The renewal of Agreements is processed through an exchange of letters between the parties-signatories to them. Whether or not UNESCO approves the renewal of the Agreement will depend on the assessment of the chair or network by the relevant UNESCO Sector. The concerned institution(s) addresses the letter of request to the Director General of UNESCO. The Agreement is considered renewed only after receipt by the concerned institution(s) of a letter of confirmation from UNESCO signed by the Director General.

Termination clause

When the UNESCO chair or network does not fully comply with the terms of the agreement, UNESCO will exercise its right to close the chair or network. Circumstances under which UNESCO will close the chair or network are as follows:
1. No progress report over three years in case of the chairs and over five years for the networks
2. Progress reports received by UNESCO are evaluated negatively
3. The activities of the chair or network are do not cohere with UNESCO mandate

When UNESCO has taken a decision to cancel an Agreement thus closing the chair or Network, the institution hosting the chair or network will receive a letter of notification from the Director General of UNESCO informing that closure will take place within sixty days of the written notice. It should be noted that this action does not preclude future cooperation between UNESCO and the concerned institution(s).
