Six case study reports on the International Domain Names (IDN) Variant project published (Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic, Devanagari, Greek and Latin)
Six case studies on the Arabic, Chinese, Cyrillic, Devanagari, Greek and Latin scripts, prepared in the framework of the International Domain Names (IDN) Variants Issues Project, are now available for consultation online. All interested parties are invited to provide their comments and recommendations by 14 November 2011.
The IDN Variant Issues Project aims to identify the problems that need to be solved to facilitate a good and safe user experience before the delegation of the IDN Variant Top-Level Domains (TLDs) can proceed. The six case studies have been conducted by expert working groups, composed of volunteers with diverse sets of skills, necessary to cover the range of issues under each study.
At as part of UNESCO activities in the area of multilingualism in cyberspace and in relation to the implementation of the Partnership Agreement with ICANN, UNESCO hosted one of the expert group meetings, on the Cyrillic script, from 20 to 21 September 2011 at its Headquarters in Paris. This first meeting of the working group on the Cyrillic script enabled experts to address a wide range of technical, policy, linguistic and usability issues related to the Cyrillic script.
