HIV & AIDS Education

UNESCO's work on HIV and AIDS focuses on three key priorities:

  • Building country capacity for effective and sustainable education responses to HIV;
  • Strengthening comprehensive HIV and sexuality education; and
  • Advancing gender equality and protecting human rights.

In Jordan, UNESCO focuses on building the capacity of teachers and education personnel in HIV/AIDS education and implements initiatives to facilitate HIV/AIDS prevention. In line with Jordan’s National AIDS Strategy, UNESCO works with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health to ensure HIV/AIDS education is integrated into the national curriculum, and collaborates with academic institutions to raise awareness to secondary school teachers, educators, counsellors, teacher trainers and university academics on their responsibilities in HIV/AIDS education.
