Literacy is the foundation for lifelong learning and essential to human and social development. Through its formal and non-formal literacy programmes worldwide, UNESCO works to realize the vision of a literate world for all.

In Jordan, UNESCO implements non-formal and informal literacy programmes for adults and youths, develops survey instruments for literacy assessment and monitoring, and prepares refugee children for integration into the Jordanian education system.
