Centres for South-South Co-operation

Almost all developed countries have well-established science policy research centres providing training and policy advice, in addition to research. In many developing countries, however, this capacity is lacking, leading to fragmented, poorly coordinated science systems.

At the same time, a number of developing countries are eager to share their experience of policy development with other countries via South-South cooperation. This has led them to establish international centres which function under the auspices of UNESCO.

The International Centre for South-South Co-operation in Science, Technology and Innovation was inaugurated in Kuala Lumpur in May 2008.

The International Research and Training Centre for Science and Technology Strategy in Beijing (China) was inaugurated in September 2012.
