This document is based on the experience which indicates that a comprehensive and effective school health, hygiene and nutrition programme is more valuable in addressing HIV/AIDS than specific HIV/AIDS programmes delivered in isolation.
It describes how the FRESH model for comprehensive school health, which calls for coordinated activity in the four key areas of school health policy, the school environment, skills-based health education and school health and nutrition services, can be used to integrate HIV/AIDS-specific approaches within a broader and more effective school health programme.
