Liberia joined UNESCO on March 6, 1947. The country is covered by the Regional Office for Education in Africa (BREDA) in Dakar, Senegal.

Organization experts have met with officials in the Ministry of Education and high-level educators to assess the needs of the Liberian educational system. An Action Plan was designed and a BREDA branch was opened in the country in order to facilitate the implementation of the programme.
