United Arab Emirates


The United Arab Emirates joined UNESCO on April 20, 1972. The country is covered by the UNESCO Office Doha, in Qatar. Opened in 1976, the cluster office represents UNESCO in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

The United Arab Emirates holds three UNESCO Chairs, including one in Applied Research in Education, established in 2003 at Sharjah Women's Higher College of Technology.

The country also has one UNEVOC centre As of September 2006, the country has 50 schools participating in the UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
