Australia joined the Organization on November 4, 1946, among the first Member States to have done so.
Australia is covered by the UNESCO Office Apia, Samoa. In the field of education, five UNESCO Chairs have been established in the country and Australia boasts four UNEVOC centres.
As of September 2006, the country also has 46 schools participating in UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
