    India joined UNESCO on November 4, 1946. The UNESCO Office is located in New Delhi and it is a Cluster Office that also covers Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

    The High-Level Group on Education for All (EFA) met in New Delhi in November 2003 and an international conference on Dialogue Among Civilizations was held there in July 2003.

    India holds six UNESCO Chairs and there are three UNEVOC centres. As of September 2006, the country has 46 schools participating in UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
