    Nepal joined UNESCO on May 1, 1953. The Organization has an office there, based in Kathmandu.

    A UNESCO Chair for Teacher Education has been established in 1997 at Kathmandu University.

    Nepal is also home to one UNEVOC centre. As of September 2006, Nepal has 86 schools participating in UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
