Turkey joined UNESCO on November 4, 1946. The agreement signed between the Turkish non-governmental organization Mother Child Education Foundation (MOCEF) and UNESCO marks a strong collaboration between Turkey and the Organization in the framework of the Early Childhood Partnerships Programme. The programme seeks to become a mobilizing force for early childhood development and family education.

Turkey holds three UNESCO Chairs and boasts four UNEVOC centres. As of September 2006, Turkey has 19 schools participating in the UNESCO’s Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).
