Canada became a member of UNESCO on November 4, 1946.

The Canadian city of Montreal is home to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), established to meet the growing needs of UNESCO Member States and the international community for relevant, up-to-date and reliable statistics in the fields of education, science and technology as well as culture and communication.
