Denmark joined UNESCO on November 4, 1946. In the field of education, the “Nordic Memorandum of Understanding” signed in 2003 between UNESCO and Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden provides an umbrella for subsequent individual agreements that will depart from traditional extra-budgetary funding approaches towards Education for All.

This new approach is intended to be a comprehensive and collaborative effort in support of capacity- building for EFA. The country holds a UNESCO Chair.
