Legislation | The Statutes of the Commission were adopted by the Government Decree n° 299.
The Czech Commission for UNESCO was officially established as a semi-autonomous body in June 1994 and re-structured in February 1999 and again re-structured in May 2003. |
Documentation Centre | Since its opening, the Documentation Centre of the Commission has acquired more than 35 000 publications which have been mainly provided by UNESCO, other National Commissions and partner NGOs. The Centre is administered by a professional librarian and consulted annually by approximately 300 visitors (students, academics, and civil servants). |
Structure of the Commission | The National Commission consists of the following bodies:
- The General Assembly
- The Executive Committee comprising 12 members
- Four Sub-Committees dealing with: (1) Education; (2) Science; (3) Culture; and (4) Information, Communication and Informatics.
- The Secretariat. |
Members/Composition | The National Commissioon is composed of 55 members representing various government departments, Ministries, institutions specialised in the fields of UNESCO's competence, and prominent individuals. The Commission meets in Plenary on average twice a year. |
Executive Committee | The Executive Committee has 12 members: the Chairman, Secretary-General, representatives of Ministries, and the Chairpersons of the sub-committees. |
General Assembly | The General Assembly has 47 members representing 3 categories: Ministries, important national institutions, including NGOs and media and individuals. They meet a minimum of twice a year (average 3 - 4 times a year). |
Committees or Sub-Committees | There are 4 sub-committees: Education, Science, Culture and Information, Communication and Informatics. The sub-committees are composed of members of the National Commission who are willing to participate in their work, as well as other experts who are not members of the National Commission. |
