EDUCATION

Germany

Germany has been a member of UNESCO since July 11, 1951.

Germany attaches great importance to educational issues. As of September 2006, 122 schools in Germany were members of the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet).

The city of Hamburg is home to the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), which focuses on adult learning as well as out-of-school and non-formal education.

UNESCO's International Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (UNEVOC) is also based in Germany, in Bonn. The Centre assists all member states in improving their technical and vocational education and training and works to support UNESCO’s mandate for Education for All and Education for Sustainable Development.
