MCAST is Malta's only post-secondary Vocational Training College. Inaugurated in 2001, the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology comprises six institutes focusing on Information and Technology, Electronics Engineering, Maritime Studies, Business and Commerce, Art and Design and Building and Construction Engineering. In September 2003, three other institutes will be set up, namely: the Community Services Institute, the Mechanical Engineering Institute and the Agribusiness Institute. Presently there are over 2500 students and over 317 academic and non-academic staff members. The College is focused on training and offers a number of day and evening courses spread over an academic year starting in September and ending in July. The college is governed by a Board of Governors nominated by the Government and the private sector. The Principal is the College's chief executive officer. MCAST has five different sites, one of which is on the sister island of Gozo.
