Slovakia joined UNESCO on 3 February 1993. In the field of education, Slovakia takes part in flagship projects and strengthens its collaboration with neighbouring countries such as the Czech Republic.
The country continues to be an active member of the UNESCO Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet), with 19 schools participating as of September 2006. Slovakia is also working on a national programme on Education for all (EFA).
