Collections of printed Chilean popular poetry: Lira popular

Documentary heritage submitted by Chile and recommended for inclusion in the Memory of the World Register in 2013.

The Lira Popular collections represent both exceptional and unique documentary heritage of folk poetry, as they are rare remains which allow greater understanding of the living and ideas of Chilean lower classes between 1880 and 1920. These documents edited by mostly alliterated folk poets, raised topics of profound interest, mainly political and social, national and international, and were presented in a traditional poetic form (décima) and illustrated with singular woodcuts and engravings.
