Report. International Workshop"Women in water management", Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane, Morocco, 26-28 March 2007.

Recommendations and follow-up activities.

 

WORKSHOP RECOMMENDATIONS AND FOLLOW-UP ACTIVITIES

1. Submit a proposal for a common research project (south-south cooperation program of UNDP) Title: "Strengthening women's capacity in integrated water management via science and technology"(Contribution from each partner due by May 15th, 2007 )

2.Work on a program for training of trainers on "strengthening women’s capacities in water management in MENA region". This program is linked to the UNDP south-south cooperation program and it will allow to apply in the field the outcomes of the research project mentioned in activity 1.

3.Implement a discussion group on "Leadership and Change of Water Sector Organizations in the MENA Region" in collaboration with the World Bank Institute.

4.Establish databases with country profiles on women’s contributions in water management (Ex: professional women working in water sector: public, private sectors, NGOs…) in collaboration with Centre of Arab Women for Training and Research (CAWTAR) and FAO.

5. Reach out to decision-makers to translate our research results related to strengthening women’s capacities in water management into policies and regulations.

6. Communicate a message to the Arab Water Council to include the ongoing activities in the region on "water and women" among the priorities of the future Arab Water Institute

7. Name the group: MENA TASKFORCE FOR WOMEN IN WATER

8. Promote the work and activities via the websites (UNESCO, FAO, InWEnt, CAWTAR, Universities, etc.) and through the participations in conferences and in water associations.

9. Action Plan to be followed up to know if we have reached our targets.
