Long Description Major activities:

Education
Academic / Diploma courses related to the Master programme on development planning at the Centre for Advanced Amazonian Studies: Nucleo de Altos Estudos Amazonicos (NAEA), with scholarships from the United Nations University, for graduate and postgraduate students from national and international countries.

Research
The Chair organized one research project on the theme:
- Environment, Population and Development in the Amazon (MAPAZ)

Conferences / congresses / meetings
The Chair was represented in several scientific meetings and conferences held in Sri Lanka, Colombia, Bolivia and Brazil.

Publications
The Chair maintained an active programme of publications, including two books, four chapters and an article, involving 36 authors, as in particular the book entitled Biosphere Reserves in the Amazon; UNESCO Chair / Nucleo de Altos Estudos Amazonicos, 2007, 148 p.
