UNESCO successfully accomplishes the first phase of it’s Youth Programme on Civic Engagement and Social Inclusion in Indonesia

Young men and women from 16 provinces across Indonesia have benefited from a project that seeks to empower youth and promote civic engagement through support of youth led initiatives and opportunities for youth leadership.

25 young leaders have been trained in youth-led advocacy, action plan development and resource mobilization skills. In addition, 30 youth-led projects have been initiated through the project in various communities across the country.

The project has facilitated the involvement of youth in both national and international processes. UNESCO organized a consultation with youth on the UN Post-2015 Development Agenda and 230 young men and women participated in national meetings organized by UNFPA and supported by UNESCO in the lead up to the ICPD Bali Youth Global Forum 2012.

This first phase of the programme included a revision of youth related policies in Indonesia and an overview of youth organizations in the country with a particular focus on the province of Papua.

For more information on the results and achievements of this programme, please see our full report entitled Civic Engagement and Social Inclusion of Youth in Indonesia.
