A key objective of the workshop is to give training support to seven (7) teams from potential World Heritage sites in Indonesia (identified by the MoEC) to enable them to refine their Tentative List document (if already created) or create the Tentative List document (for sites yet to do so). A Tentative List is an inventory of those properties which each State Party (such as Indonesia) to the Convention intends to consider for nomination for future World Heritage nominations. 

In her opening remarks for the workshop, Dr. Diah Harianti, Director for Internalization of Value and Cultural Diplomacy, MoEC, outlined that “we are pleased to co-organize this workshop along with UNESCO. Indonesia is home to diverse cultural heritage places, many that have meaning, significance and importance as potential World Heritage sites. In this regard the Ministry of Education and Culture are working to identify the sites with the most potential to be recognized on the World Heritage list.”

In his remarks, Mr. Bernards Zako (Head of the Culture Unit of the UNESCO Office Jakarta), congratulated the Ministry on its work in identifying potential World Heritage sites, thanked the participants from the 7 (seven) sites for their participants and added that “the training delivered over the coming week will not only support these sites in developing quality nomination and tentative list dossiers, but also in helping to identify and manage the core values of heritage sites that can be safeguarded and protected for future generations.”

The workshop will be facilitated by experts from the International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and UNESCO. The main methods of workshop will be interactive lectures and group work in developing the Tentative List documents based on the information given during the training.
