After launching the first phase I of the "UNESCO Chair for Community of Practice for Inter-religious and Inter-cultural Dialogue for Mutual Understanding" for which we have created a new google group i-dialogue UNESCO community chair to set up a service for information, we are now ready with Phase II.
This phase serves and corresponds to two important parallel functions of the Community.
  • To create a space for quasi-daily dialogue between the members, to send and receive useful information over key issues (which will contribute to sustain the UNESCO ED/UNITWIN website). This phase allows us to connect all members throughout the time span of the project.
  • To reinforce the clarity of this purpose we have shall be using a new email address: i.dialoguenews@gmail.com
  • to launch now, is producing Research, with a limited group of participants and which can be created according to the grouping of your choice. This phase shall create a network of research on Best Practices in Education on the Inter-religious and Inter-cultural Dialogue (based on the past year’s experience of the earlier i-dialogue group. For this the email continues to remain: i-dialogueUCC@googlegroups.com
  • For this purpose we request the Community members to contribute their research on two levels:
  • (a) interpretative (theoretical) and
  • (b) methodology and techniques (practices).


    • Regarding the content specifications, the UNESCO Transdisciplinary Chair of Florence agrees with the UNESCO specifications concerning the domain of Inter-religious and Inter-cultural Dialogue to focus specially on issues related to youth and women. This means that our community shall also include the network of children and women globally, who have already experimented or worked on the best practices.

    We wish to ask each participant who wishes to join this initiative to send us their thoughts, research documents, presentation of their experiences, original projects which they consider as useful for the development and production of research material on the best practices for the Inter-religious and Inter cultural Dialogue, and Culture of Peace, according to the following instructions indicated below:
  • Fill up the Participation Form (which you will find in the "Files" section), indicating the topic of their choice (a summary, description of theoretical aspects and the best practices). Documents can be separately attached to this form. The last date for receiving all contributions shall be April 30th 2009;
  • The UNESCO Chair of Florence shall collate and use the proposals with all documents attached to prepare a preliminary report;
  • Send a preliminary report with a proposed Glossary consisting of key concepts as theoretical and methodological bases for shared research (May 15);
  • Circulate comments and contributions by participants on the
    preliminary report. (May 30);
  • Send the Final Report to the participants of the Community (end of June);
  • Send the Report to UNESCO;
  • Send the approved Report to the CoPr network (July).


    • If members need any help to complete the form, the moderator will be ready to assist them.
    This effort shall be the first step for this project on shared research. We envisage the following developments:
    • shared publication;
    • international meet;
    • the next new phase in the development of the CoPr.

    To conclude, we would be pleased to emphasise on the innovative aspect of this CoPr. The challenge presented by this project is that of using the googlegroup medium for informal exchange so that we can move to formal research (with scientifically backed results) and connect researchers at an international level (based on a participative research approach).

    We are confident that we can rise to the challenge with your active participation and what results from this shared adventure will itself be an example of best practices of dialogue for a culture of peace.
