This newsletter is about the UNESCO Chair's recent activities and also its Strategic Plan 2010-2013.

UNESCO Chair Strategic Plan
The UNESCO Chair’s Strategic Plan 2010-2013 is now available. The development of the Plan involved an extensive consultation process and is closely informed by UNESCO’s incoming Global Strategy on Youth. The Plan is intended to provide strategic focus to the work of the Chair over the coming three year period.

UNESCO Chair Hears the Views of Young People
Using the pre-existing structure of Foróige’s Reference Panel, staff working on the UNESCO Chair programme met with a group of young people in October to hear their views on what civic engagement means to them and their initial views on the Chair’s programme of work. The Reference Panel is made up of 40 young people who are elected to represent the membership of Foróige and provide a direct input into the running of organisation at a national level.

Chair Leads UNESCO Study to Learn From Youth in Zambia
In carrying out the research the Chair will partner with the University of Zambia, the Alan Kerins African Projects and the Lifestart Project in Zambia. The research findings will also be linked to the International Resilience Project.

Resilience and Civic Engagement Network Agreement
At a meeting in Singapore the UNESCO Chair formed an alliance with the Resilience Research Centre at Dalhousie University in Canada and the resilience research team at Massey University in New Zealand. This Alliance intends to contribute to improving children and young people’s outcomes globally by building knowledge regarding the role of resilience in wellbeing.

Young Delegate from Foróige Participated in UNESCO Youth Forum
The 6th UNESCO Youth Forum took place in Paris between 1-3 October as an integral part of the 35th UNESCO General Conference.In collaboration with its youth development partner Foróige, the UNESCO Chair nominated Ms. Sinéad Ward (24) to represent Foróige at the Forum. Sinéad Ward spoke at the plenary session entitled "Youth participation: UNESCO Youth Forum, a long term approach".

UNESCO Provides Orientation Training to Staff of the CFRC
The staff at the Child and Family Research Centre attended two days of training at UNESCO headquarters in Paris in early October. The purpose of the training was to familiarise the staff, who are all working on the UNESCO Chair programme, with the work of UNESCO.
