UNESCO Chair in biosphere reserves and natural and mixed world heritage sites (842), established in 2009 at the University for International Cooperation, San José (Costa Rica)

 

Fields / Disciplines Biosphere reserves and natural and mixed world heritage sites Objectives The purpose of the Chair shall be to promote an integrated system of research, training, information and documentation in the field of biosphere reserves and natural and mixed world heritage sites. It will serve as a means of facilitating collaboration between high-level, internationally recognized researchers and teaching staff of the University and other institutions in Costa Rica and elsewhere in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as in other regions of the world. The specific objectives of this Chair are to: strengthen the technical and scientific capacities of managers of biosphere reserves and natural and mixed world heritage sites; systematize information facilitating the process of decision-making, technical assistance, communication and research on biosphere reserves and natural and mixed world heritage sites; establish means of communication and exchange of experiences among biosphere reserves and natural and mixed world heritage sites; and disseminate information on biosphere reserves and natural and mixed world heritage sites.
