UNESCO and the Global Alliance on Media and Gender launch a joint global survey on gender and media

On the heels of International Development Cooperation Meeting on Gender and Media and the First General Assembly of the Global Alliance on Media and Gender (GAMAG), which will take place from 7 to 10 December in Geneva, UNESCO joins hands with GAMAG to launch a preliminary mapping of gender and media actions globally.

The key purpose of the preliminary mapping is to enable a broader understanding of the different initiatives of GAMAG’s members.

Results generated by this initiative will be an integral part of the upcoming GAMAG General Assembly and will contribute to synergies and closer international cooperation among all stakeholders in reaching gender equality in and through media by 2030.

The global survey primarily aims at all individuals and organizations working in the field of media, journalism, communication and gender, who are involved in gender and media related activities or gender equalities issues. If you are not yet a member of GAMAG you are still invited to join by completing the mapping survey. It calls for more participation from around the world in order to reinforce the global dialogue on relevant issues.

The survey was prepared jointly by GAMAG and UNESCO within the framework of the UNESCO International Programme for the Development of Communication project - Strengthening Media and Civil Society Capacity on Gender Equality Through Beijing +20 and the Post 2015 Agenda. Other actionS will include, global webinar post Beijing+ 20 Review, training of gender focal-points in media organizations, and the training of girls and boys on media and information literacy competencies.

With the support of UNESCO from December 2013, until today, the Global Alliance on Media and Gender has gathered over 700 organizations and individuals.

To participate in the survey and join in the global alliance, or to provide important supplementary information as a registered GAMAG member, visit the global survey page (links to the form page) and fill in the questionnaire, available in English, French and Spanish.
