Project "Cross-reading of the History of Civilizations of Central Asia through the prism of intercultural dialogue"

Résumé

From earliest times Central Asia has been home to a multi-ethnic population boasting rich and various cultures. Here nomadic and settled peoples lived peacefully in continuous processes of their interaction and mutual influence.
Owing to its unique geographical location, in ancient times and the Middle Age the region of Central Asia served as a crossroad of major trade communications linking different cultures of the East and the West. As a result its territory facilitated intensive and fruitful exchange of the cultural achievements of various societies.
From this point of view the study of the process of intercultural dialogue in Central Asia from the epoch of antiquity until the modern times remains highly relevant. The present project will allow a deeper understanding of historical traditions of peaceful co-existence and confessional tolerance. In addition to its academic value, the project will also promote a better mutual understanding and rapproachement of the peoples of Central Asian countries.
The study of the following issues, connected with processes of intercultural dialogue in Central Asia from the epoch of antiquity to the present times:
1. Religious tolerance and the interrelationship of religious traditions in the history of Central Asia.
2. The cross-fertilization of culture in the arts of Central Asia.
3. Interactions and symbiosis of nomadic and settled cultures in the history of Central Asia
It is furthermore planned to publish a collection of papers resulting from the project entitled “Intercultural dialogue in the history of Central Asia”
