The Africa-Europe Youth Summit in December 2007 parallel to the Africa-EU Summit of heads of State was a crucial moment to strengthen the ties between young people in Africa and Europe and to increase their knowledge about the European Union and the African Union and their policies related to the living conditions of young people on the two continents. The process received strong political support from European and African authorities and the follow-up of the Youth Summit was assumed by the North-South Centre with the financial support of the European Commissions in the format of a pilot program for Africa-Europe youth co-operation which will be managed by the Centre. The activities organized, either in the context of the Joint Management Agreement signed with the European Commission in autumn 2008, or in the context of the new euro-african dimension of the partnership between the European Commission and the Council of Europe.
