The Conference was aimed at raising awareness about the presence of Papuan’s variety of culture in Indonesia, as well as at displaying and promoting its rich cultural diversity within the context of Melanesian countries. Because of the different factors such as the loss of local indigenous languages, techniques of handicrafts, indigenous knowledge and wisdom, these rich cultural elements of Papua in the Eastern part of Indonesia are currently highly endangered. Hence, the conference was aimed at elaborating and discussing ways for preservation and development, in order to protect these diversified cultural properties on the premises of the fact that an effective protection or preservation of intangible and tangible cultural heritage are only possible through the full commitment of the local community and enforcement of the effective legal instrument taken by the authorities.
