The status and entitlements of General Service staff members at UNESCO A career as a member of the General Service staff at UNESCO brings with it a salary corresponding to the special status of United Nations staff, together with other benefits related to your family responsibilities. However, actual employment contracts of staff are based on the UNESCO Staff Rules and Regulations, which remain the definitive source of any legal and administrative interpretation. OTHER BENEFITS As a staff member of UNESCO you are entitled to other benefits which enable you to carry out your duties properly in good conditions and provide you more generally with a good quality of life. Help with family commitments You are entitled to a family allowance if you have a legitimate, natural or legally adopted dependant child under the age of 18 years or, if in full-time attendance at a school or university (or similar educational institution), under the age of 21, for whom you ensure the main and continuing support. Leave Annual leave accrues at the rate of two and one-half days per month. Social security and retirement pension You will be affiliated to the UNESCO Medical Benefits Fund. Your recognized dependants may also be covered by the Fund. A monthly contribution will be deducted from your salary at source. You will be compensated by the Organization in the event of injury or illness attributable to the performance of official duties. In the event of death in similar circumstances, your family will also be compensated. Upon appointment, you will become a member of the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund, which will provide you with a competitive retirement pension. A compulsory contribution will be deducted from your monthly salary. |
