Activities

Broad consultations are held on a regular basis with the Permanent Delegations on important matters to the functioning of the Organization and its activities.

Moreover, various groupings are made up in UNESCO on geographical, linguistic or other bases, treating common questions to the participating Member States. Each group is directed by a president, elected among the Permanent Delegates of countries constituting the respective group.

Currently, the following groups are effective in UNESCO:

I Electoral groups (grouping of the Member States for the elections in the Executive Board; please see the Executive Board web site)

II Other groups
1. Group of non-aligned countries (NAM)
2. Group of the 77 (G-77)
3. Group of the Fifteen (European Union)
4. Group of information (OECD)
5. Group of Geneva (most significant contributors with the budget of UN system)
6. French-speaking countries Group
7. Group of the Commonwealth Members of UNESCO
8. Comité del idioma español (hispanophone group)
9. Group of the Community of the Portuguese-speaking countries (lusophone group)
10. Russophone Group of the General Conference
11. Europe Regional Group
12. Southern African Development Community Group (SADC)
13. Group of Permanent Delegates
14. Association of the Poet-Ambassadors in UNESCO
