Enhanced quality teaching and learning materials with regard to education for sustainable development
|
The United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014), for which UNESCO is the lead agency, seeks to integrate the principles, values, and practices of sustainable development into all aspects of education and learning, in order to address the social, economic, cultural and environmental problems we face in the 21st century. Sustainable development is a vision of development that encompasses populations, animal and plant species, ecosystems, natural resources and that integrates concerns such as the fight against poverty, gender equality, human rights, education for all, health, human security and intercultural dialogue. Education for sustainable development (ESD) aims to help people to develop the attitudes, skills and knowledge to make informed decisions for the benefit of themselves and others, now and in the future, and to act upon these decisions.

07 Dec 2010 Training of Lesotho Media as partners in Education for Sustainable Development UNESCO Office in Windhoek
The Lesotho National Commission for UNESCO and UNESCO Office Windhoek will hold a series of workshops focused on Educating media on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). The first workshop that will identify priority actions to strengthen media as partners in ESD will take place on 11 November 2010 and a second three-day workshop from 8 to 10 December 2010 will focus on effective reporting on Education for Sustainable Development. 11 Aug 2010 Namibia Environmental Education Network (NEEN) 2010 Annual Conference UNESCO Office in Windhoek
About 80 participants from various ministries and non-governmental institutions attended the Namibia Environmental Education Network (NEEN) conference at the Okatjiona Environmental Education Center, in the Waterberg Plateau National Park. The conference started on Thursday, 5 August, and ended on Saturday, 7 August and was organized by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) and funded by UNDP. More |

Training of media professionals in fair, unbiased and conflict-sensitive reporting will add to mutual understanding, reconciliation and ensure appropriate dissemination of life saving information.
