- Training on Inventorying Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) took place in Gobabis from 17 to 28 September 2012. The training was attended by Culture Officers and selected local community members from Omaheke, Hardap and Erongo Region. This was followed by a field work in the above mentioned Regions.
- The contractor in Tsumkwe has started with the construction of the Tsumkwe Cultural Village, which will include an entrance with curio shop and cultural information, Tourist camping area, traditional village, traditional spiritual tree and a traditional food kitchen. Installation of solar water pump for the Cultural Village was done successfully.
- The contractor for the development of Ozombu Zovindimba National Heritage site in Omaheke was appointed, and the construction process is expected to commence as the appointed contractor has started with the process of setting up.
- Khorixas Cultural Village, agreement has been signed between Kunene Regional Council and contractor and the site was handed over for construction.
What we expect to happen next week:
- Stakeholder’s Meeting planned for Thursday, 18 October 2012 for the Duineveld Dune Tannery; to discuss the way forward, as the Tannery’s building construction is completed and plan for the Official handover.
- A consultation meeting with the Ministry of Trade and Industry and the International Labour Organisation is planned for Wednesday, 17 October 2012 to discuss the programme budget and the way forward.
- Training on Inventorying Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) to take place in Rundu from 14 to 28 October 2012 for Otjozondjupa, Kavango and Caprivi Regions. Two weeks of field work among communities involved will follow imediately after the workshop. The objective is to involve the community members as actual bearers of ICH and provide them with an adequate training in identification and inventorying methods based on the provisions of the Duineveld Dune Tannery.
