Information and Communication Technology in Education

Member States assisted in developing strategies for using ICTs in knowledge acquisition and sharing.

UNESCO is giving a high priority to the use of ICT for more equitable and pluralistic development in education, aiming to expand the knowledge base for learners. UNESCO fosters the use of ICTs in teaching and learning, including the establishment of standards to strengthen ICT competences for teachers and the development of strategies and best practices for integrating free and open sources software and open education resources in learning processes.

    10 Oct 2011 Open Educational Resources and the Opportunities for Expanding Open and Distance Learning in Namibia University of Namibia
    NOLNet in collaboration with the British Council, UNESCO and the Namibia Open and learning (ODL) institutions is organizing a conference on Open and Distance learning institutions, to be held at the Safari Hotel & Conference Center in Windhoek, from 18—19 October 2011.     UNESCO commissions survey on media and information literacy levels of teachers in Swaziland, Lesotho, and Namibia. The outcomes of which will serve as a preliminary indication of the need for media and information literacy (MIL) training for teachers and will inform the adaptation of the Model MIL Curriculum for Teachers which will be released soon. More

    May 2010 marked the start of a teacher training collaboration between the University of Pretoria and Kgoro Primary School teachers from the Zithobeni community in Bronkhorstspruit. Two courses were presented, namely Basic Computer Literacy for Teachers and Information Literacy for Teachers based on UNESCO ICT competency standards for teachers and a UNESCO Draft Media and Information Literacy Curriculum for Teachers. More
