National and regional capacities for research, training and education in basic sciences strengthened to foster applications for societal needs and to encourage careers in science, taking into account gender equity and equality

UNESCO places special emphasis on the mobilization of science, technology and innovation for sustainable development that accords top priority to poverty eradication. The International Basic Sciences Programme (IBSP) is an international multidisciplinary programme established by UNESCO Member States in order to reinforce intergovernmental cooperation and co-operation between partner organizations in science to strengthen national capacities in the basic sciences and science education.
