COASTS & SMALL ISLANDS
UNESCO Office in Venice's action towards sustainable living in coastal regions and in small islands

CIS-MATRIX4.jpg
Three-mutually reinforcing modalities are at the core of the Coastal Regions and Islands Platforms (CSI):

INTERSECTORIAL FIELD PROJECTS
INTERDISCIPLINARY UNIVERSITY

UNITWIN/UNESCO CHAIRS
CROSS-CUTTING VIRTUAL FORA ON WISE COASTAL PRACTICES

Through these modalities, wise pratices are formulated and field-tested at the local level; reviewed and disseminated through university Chairs/twinning arrangements at local and regional levels; critiqued and transformed into normative action at the global level trhough the "Wise Coastal Practices for sustainable Human Development" Virtual Forum (WiCoP).

Popular virtual discussion forums :
- Wise Coastal Practices examines wise practice characteristics, through the presentation of specific case studies (example wise practices).
- Small Islands Voice - Global engages the general public in small islands in an online debate on issues relating to environment and development.
- Small Islands Voice - Youth provides an opportunity for school students in small islands to link with others to exchange views and knowledge about island living. (username: view; password: only)
