High Level Round Table on "Beijing + 15" - 8 March 2010, 3 to 5 pm, Room II
Organized by the Division for Gender Equality
Every year, UNESCO organizes a high-level International Round Table on a specific theme that inaugurates UNESCO’s programme celebrating International Women’s Day. This year’s theme is “Beijing +15” in keeping with the UN system theme for 2010. The Round Table will focus on the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995, its agenda, progress and future directions, including UNESCO’s role in upholding and implementing the Beijing Declaration and the Platform for Action.

The Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova will open the Round Table, which will be followed by a special video message from Hillary Clinton, Secretary of State of the United States of America and a message from Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space and Deputy of the Yaroslavl Regional Duma.
The Round Table will bring together influential women who organized and attended the Beijing Conference in 1995:
- Ms Getrude Mangella (Tanzania) – Secretary-General of the Beijing Conference
- Ms Patricia Licuanan (Philippines) - Chair of the Main Committee of the Beijing Conference
- H. E. Ms Shi Shuyun, Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of the People's Republic of China to UNESCO
We also will have the honor to welcome H.E. Ms Eleonora Valentinovna Mitrofanova (Russian Federation), Chairperson of the Executive Board of UNESCO.
