The Priority Africa platform is intersectoral in that it includes all of the main lines of action that each programme sector, the institutes, centres and offices must implement as a priority in Africa.

In addition, the Priority Africa platform is interdisciplinary and cross-cutting. Regional in essence, it takes the unique character of national evelopment situations and levels into account and approaches the continent as a single entity with a view to strengthening the regional and subregional integration process in Africa. It thus plays a key role in driving forward support activities that contribute to integration.

During the 2008-2009 biennium, the platform’s strategies, bodies, working methods, scope and activities were established and gradually adapted. The platform’s operational phase will begin in 2010-2011.
